UG2 women are paving the way for future facility services leaders.
Just like buildings don’t perform well by accident, it’s no accident that UG2 has women leading the way at every level. Mentorship isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s intentional infrastructure that supports long-term growth for individuals and our organizations.
This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” is a year-round leadership mindset for us.
Moments of recognition are important for supporting our team members, and we are certainly making time today to celebrate all the women who strengthen our company. But at UG2, we believe grounding those moments in our core values is what strengthens our teams.
Give to Gain: What Does It Mean?
The International Women’s Day website describes Give to Gain as encouraging a mindset of generosity and collaboration” and emphasizing “the power of reciprocity and support.”
As of 2024, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that less than 22% of facilities managers are women. As we know, and our clients know, the women behind UG2 have an outsized impact on the industry.
Supporting our future leaders not only serves our clients and our organization, it shows the next generation that they have a place in facilities management.
We always want the best-of-the-best talent. And integrating generosity, collaboration, reciprocity, and support into how we operate our company ensures we not only keep our current talent but continue to attract the best and brightest.
The Multiplication Effect of Giving
The best leaders know that giving—whether through knowledge, resources, visibility, advocacy, training, mentoring, or other means—is never a subtraction. It’s a multiplication.
International Women’s Day says it best: “When women thrive, we all rise.”
Sharing expertise doesn’t take that expertise away from you. It increases the impact you’re able to make.
Mentoring direct reports doesn’t mean they’re going to take your job. It means your whole team is going to perform at a higher level, directly impacting the organization.
Advocating for women, and refusing to pull up the ladder behind you, doesn’t mean others lose opportunities. It removes barriers that never should have existed. Plus, your entire organization gains stronger, more diverse leadership.
Though facilities management is a male-dominated field, we are showing that it’s open to everyone.
Ways You Can Give to Gain
Continuing education is a key tenet of what makes the people of UG2 the best in the business. As part of that, we sponsor employees’ attendance at events like the Conference for Women, support organizations like the Commercial Real Estate Women Network, and participate in the CoreNet Leadership Program and and BOMA Boston Women’s Leadership Initiative.
But it’s the day-to-day actions that we’re most proud of, like taking time to listen to team members. Sharing skills. And emphasizing mentorship as essential aspect of our culture.
As a people-first company, we’re proud of the women of UG2 every day, but today we’re sending out an extra big thank you for their trailblazing work.
