UG2’s Employees Share Why Mentoring Matters

At a time when technology is moving at warp speed, surpassing our every expectation, it is important to remember that interpersonal relationships are crucial and fill a core human need.

We have overwhelming data to support the power of mentorship.  Research from The Center for Creative Leadership  shows that mentorship accelerates career growth and makes us feel good about the work we do. The National Bureau of Economic Research found that mentors can help us navigate workplace challenges, build confidence, and stay motivated.

These findings support what we heard directly from our colleagues at UG2 when we invited them to share a little about what their mentors have meant to them in honor of Mentoring Month 2026.

  • Lino connected with his mentor, Alcides, through a youth program early in life, and benefited from his guidance on developing his skills and working to improve continuously. Although Alcides passed away in 2012, Lino says that the lessons he imparted continue to have an enormous impact: “I wish he were here today, to let him know his positive influence made a big difference in my life.”
  • Samantha described the influence of her coworker, mentor, and friend, Maggie. “Maggie, thank you for always going out of your way to help me and my team. I know how busy your workload is and you always make time to teach or check my work. You are a true mentor and asset to UG2. I know I can speak for majority of UG2 to say thank you, and we would be lost without you and your knowledge.”
  • Maritza met her mentor, Michael, when she interviewed at UG2. “Michael, you believed in me when I had no experience and trusted my work history,” she wrote. “Your confidence in me pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’ve grown so much personally and professionally. I am always challenged in the best way, and it motivates me to do my very best. I will forever be grateful and will never forget you.”
  • Carolin’s mentor, Carol, had a profound impact on Carolin’s growth through her time, wisdom, and belief in her. “I appreciate everything they’ve poured into my development,” she says. “It has meant more to me than I can express, and this is just a way to acknowledge the difference they have made in my journey.”
  • Rafa met his mentor at work and shared that his mentor’s support, direction, and leadership style have helped him build confidence, strengthen his skills, and approach his work with a higher level of accountability and professionalism. “Thank you for your leadership, trust, and support. I truly appreciate the guidance you provided and the lasting impact it has had on my professional growth.”
  • Alexis has benefited from two incredible mentors for a decade, since starting in the industry at age 19: “David and Richard, thank you for always being there for me, for guiding me, for giving me opportunities to grow, and believing in me every step of the way. I’m grateful to be part of our ‘circle of trust’ and I’ll always carry the lessons you’ve taught me.”
  • Derek expressed the impact of his mentor Jason, whom he met when UG2 took over an account at a facility Derek had worked at for several years. “Jason helped me to find direction in my career. He believed in me and promoted me when it would have been a much easier path for him to have hired externally. Jason continues to mentor me every day and is extremely generous with sharing his knowledge, skills, and experience.”
  • Raul met Admiral Fernando Cerdan while serving in the Peruvian Navy. Raul described how his mentor’s extraordinary background combined with the man’s humility, patience, and a genuine willingness to teach. “He often reminded me, ‘Never forget where you started. Respect your leaders, and treat your peers—and especially your subordinates—the way you would like to be treated.”
  • Johnny encountered his mentor, Ted, while working as a guard, and he continued to pursue his education because of Ted’s encouragement. “I will forever be grateful. Thanks to Ted, I went to school, and got my certificate, and—just like he promised—he recommended me to UG2.”
  • Kayla expressed her immense gratitude for her mentor Henrique’s support and guidance: “Henrique is a balance between kindness and high standards. He makes a difference by offering support but also maintaining high expectations. He helped me grow as a leader, for my team, combining strength and grace.”

These stories of generosity and connection remind us that we have tremendous power to uplift others and influence their lives and futures. We are proud to belong to a community that values relationships, and to work for a company that sets the bar high for putting people first.
