5 Small Actions of Giving You Can Take Right Now

By Edgar Colon

Transforming Thankfulness into Tangible Impact, One Thoughtful Gesture at a Time.

At UG2, as we close out a year marked by growth, challenge, and a lot of collective wins, Giving Tuesday gives us a moment to appreciate the people behind that progress and to turn that appreciation into action.

And we’re inviting you to take part in the domino effect of giving, one small gesture at a time.

The Domino Effect of Giving

We see it in our teams and in our communities: One act of generosity inspires another. That secondary act might influence someone else, creating a cycle of giving. This cycle is what creates a culture of giving within workplaces, communities, and individual lives.

Why does it matter?

Giving doesn’t just help those on the receiving end. It has measurable benefits for the giver and for organizational culture.

According to Fidelity Charitable Giving in the Workplace report, nearly 8 in 10 employees  at companies that offer a workplace giving program say their company’s values align with their personal values. Workplaces that don’t have a giving program? Just 56% of employees say their values align with their own.

When values align, it boosts trust amongst teams.

Opportunities to volunteer also help employee retention. The 2024 Social Impact Stats compiled by ForMomentum says that, “Employees who participate in corporate purpose programs through volunteering, giving or taking positive actions are 52% less likely to leave their company.”

That intersection of giving, gratitude, and employee satisfaction are at the heart of UG2’s core values. And we have witnessed first-hand how the continuity that comes from having long-standing team members leads to better outcomes for everyone.

Turning Gratitude Into Action

Beyond financial resources, you can donate your time and skills to organizations you care about. But consider starting even smaller.

Here are just a handful of ways to start creating a domino effect of giving right now:

  • Send handwritten thank-you notes to your team, sharing your appreciation of their work
  • Help a busy teammate complete a task
  • Bring in a just-because snack for your team
  • Take time to listen when someone seems stressed or distracted
  • Offer to mentor a junior team member

These actions are proof that meaningful gestures don’t have to be huge or time-intensive to be significant.

Today is the perfect day to add a recurring calendar reminder to celebrate your team’s small wins at the end of every week. You might also add to your to-do list finding ways to amplify your team’s giving throughout the year, whether it’s organizing a team volunteer day or inviting team members to suggest a local organization or cause that could benefit.

Our Invitation to You: Knock Over a Domino

If we all pick one small act today—a complement, a note, a matching donation—we have the opportunity to turn hundreds of micro acts of giving into major momentum.

Because when gratitude transforms into action, we are no longer just giving. We are igniting a movement across our teams, our cities, and beyond.
