National Safety Month, Week Three: Roadway Safety

Keeping People and Property Safe, Inside and Outside of Your Facilities

Facility management extends well outside of the walls of our buildings. Neglecting the exterior aspects of our properties can have dire consequences. UG2 operates in a wide variety of environments that require specific attention for pedestrians in parking lots, as well as the safety of both vehicle operators and the properties themselves. As National Safety Month’s week three theme (Roadway Safety) reminds us, maintaining the exterior spaces of your property, including walkways, roadways, exterior stairs, and parking areas, is critical to the safety of everyone accessing your facilities.

Assessing customers’ unique needs and circumstances. A cookie-cutter approach to facility services is inviting safety failures. With the wide variety of spaces we operate out of, ranging from buildings in city skylines to public venues, we view each of these sites as a unique opportunity to create safe work practices tailored to the venue. Whether it’s providing further training on golf cart operations in parking lots or simply pedestrian management, UG2 works with each client to ensure our teams are properly trained and authorized to carry out the work required at the high level we expect of ourselves.

Taking a team approach. Teamwork is at the center of everything we do here at UG2. For the property managers we work with, we embody this ideal. We recognize that safety planning necessitates the involvement of all stakeholders and the coordination of multiple teams. We work to actively integrate with our clients’ teams and processes to ensure safe work practices and working conditions are met not only in the building but also outside and on the roadways.

Accounting for Mother Nature. Storms and seasonal challenges require their own set of safety checklists, and inclement weather necessitates heightened attention before, during, and after a weather event. Roadways and safe vehicle operations are heavily affected by inclement weather. To mitigate the hazards associated with it, we work closely with our drivers across the fleet to ensure they all receive training on inclement weather driving. Every driver ensures that they uphold the expectations outlined in the training to avoid any disruption to our clients.

Involving our experts. Keeping facilities’ walkways and roadways safe means engaging

our operations and maintenance professionals to ensure roadways are appropriately marked and in good condition. They work in coordination with our electricians and facility engineers to ensure that lighting conditions are optimal and every bulb is in working order at all times. Even with our expert teams working regularly to ensure these standards, things happen. To address this and provide the high level of services expected by us here at UG2, our emergency mobile maintenance crews are available 24/7 with the equipment and expertise to solve any unanticipated problems that arise immediately.

Emphasizing communication. At every facility, a team’s ability to communicate about an issue and get an immediate response is critical. At UG2, our employees prioritize effective communication strategies with coworkers and customers in everything they do.

Accidents happen, things get missed, and unfortunately, people get hurt. That is simply the nature of life. Here at UG2, we understand it will never be perfect; we use that understanding to our advantage. The constant evolution of our safety plans and programs creates an environment for our teams and customers that fosters growth and development, encouraging employees to not only consider safety but also genuinely care about those around them embodying the ideals we strive for at UG2: passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to providing the highest level of services to our clients.
